Pegging thoughts for 2026

Some thoughts and ideas looking forward beyond 2025 summer league and although this is 12 months away, I think we should have our ducks in a row prior to booking venues. Also we need to be prepared and sorted prior to the AGM as venues have to be booked a long way in advance. The fact that bookings are sorted before we know the actual membership numbers is another complication. This is the issue, and some fisheries don't like to be messed around adding or cancelling pegs so we need to get it right first time if possible.

Following the recent "views" and poll regarding the 20 pegs booked for the 2025 season 2026 may offer us an option of tactical booking going forward for some venues lakes to try ease the potential financial burden.

Option 1 Book 20 pegs as standard where fisheries charge for numbers turning up not pegs booked
Option 2 Where we can book a 20 peg lake for 16 pegs book 16 to get the lake.
Option 3 If there is a 20 peg venue, (Torne Bank, Little Swan), book 16-17 pegs as it is highly unlikely they will let the 4 or 3 pegs out to pleasure anglers so by default we get the full lake.
Option 4 When we do book pegs on a 40-50 peg lake we have to recognise that we will be sharing and on these venues we may need to book the extra pegs and adapt payouts or pegging fees to suit.

I think we have to change our way of thinking and "Taylor" our approach to the various fisheries and lakes to be the most cost effective to suit the club whilst recognising our dwindling membership numbers.

Thoughts and input of members appreciated, let the debate begin.
