Big Bash Wrinkies End of Year knock up Lindholme Strip Lake 30-12-24

Following the disappointing knock up  on Saturday a few of us decided we wanted to have another go and Monday 30th offered the opportunity.

The fishery was very busy with a couple of matches on and also the £5 pleasure angling deal being taken advantage of by those who were still on their holidays.

Arriving to find my fellow wrinklies fed and watered, Strip Lake roadside pegs 2,4,6 & 8  were chose after meeting at 7:45 in the café as these were the pegs which caught on Saturday. Draw made and off to the lake we go.
The weather was a 5 degrees, a couple of warmer than Saturday. No sign of fog, and a slight breeze coming off Loco to us in the face. The sun was also rising and it promised to be a nice day. Would the fish be feeding was the question.

Peg 8 was todays office, mid lake and more than happy with that one. Set up same as Saturday, except much lighter elastic and no pellet line, just maggot lines at 2+2 and 2+4 in the deeper water. Bomb rod also set up, just in case.
Everyone set up early so Glen's whistle went at 09:15 to fish to 3:15. Fed both the short line and long line and went onto the short line to see if anything there.
Float dipped and a 3lb F1 graced the net, almost half Saturdays weight in one fish to start the day. John Utting was pulling out of fish on the strike, John Lanelly went on feeder rod and managed a couple of small F1's and Glen was waiting patiently for a bite. Meanwhile I was getting a small F1 most put in's.
The fish were on my top 2+2 line directly in front of me and feeding a small kinder pot of maggots and a few micros the bites kept coming. So ship out, feed, wait for a bite, strike and repeat. Some bites came immediately the bait landed at dead depth, sometimes you had to wait. Had to change my hook mid match which disrupted the bites as no feed in for a short while. Also when sun got directly in front I had to move to my left behind the suns track so I could see the float which again disrupted the bites.
Its hard gauging the weights of the small F1s and at 2pm with 46lb on my clicker a second keep net was introduced. This is usually the death of a match however I had a couple more decent F1s and was worried the net limit would come into play. The larger F1s didn't stay long and the  bite rate did slow down however the second net weighed in at 12-12. This combing with 39-00 gave me a total of 51-12. Yes I estimated my first net wrong but at least I didn't go over.
I have fed over 3 pints of maggots (thankyou Mr Webster) and a pint of micros.  Stamp of F1s between 3 oz to 6 oz. about 5 larger 2lb + fish and a 6 oz chub. Numerous missed bites and a couple of foul hooked larger F1s lost. On Saturdays effort when you tried to feed heavy the fish backed off ASAP.

Peg 6 saw John Utting as my close neighbour. John also set up 2+2 and 2+4 lines and a bomb rod. After missing his first 3 bites then John started catching F1s. Fishing off both lines John brought F1s to the net however they were a smaller stamp and the fish moved away several times leaving gaps in Johns catch rate. The rod was tried but no liners or bites on this approach.

Peg 4 was home for John Lanelly who followed the same approach. John started on his rod for the first 20 minutes or so and had a couple of small F1s. he then went on his maggot lines and built a wight of 37-9 for second in match. Double maggot his best bait. John also had a couple of decent F1s in his net which boosted his weight.

On favoured peg 2 was Glen and happy to be on the winning Peg from Saturday. We did offer to put peg 12 in but he declined. Slow start for Glen and he was struggling to get past a tiny stamp of F1 taking his maggot bait, Glen fed a line towards the corner and fishing with 6mm expander did managed about 5 much larger fish but the bites were infrequent to boost his weight. Glen took 27-13 to the scales, a similar weight to what Indian caught on Saturday.

So same pegs on a different day and totally different results. That's why they call it fishing and not catching fish as you never know what you will get on the day.

Great session, lots of laughs and banter everyone helping each other from sharing bait, tactics and weighing in. Thanks guys and we will do it again soon hopefully.
