Summer League round 4 Willows 18.7.2020

Weather cloudy a little sunshine early on and then some drizzle and rain. A little breeze blowing from Strip down the lake towards Bonsia but nothing to write home about as there were some calm spells and flat calm water.
Friday night semi nudist draw again handed me peg 2 with nice easy ;parking and a short limp to my platform, thank you guys, once again much appreciated how you are looking after me.

Willows was tightly pegged and the whole complex was full again as Aaron fits in those matches effected by COVID situation. So with 30 pegs for our 20 members and the other 23 pegs available  for the open anglers it was always going to be a  tight situation. I think this played out in some of the results however fish were present but a struggle for bites at times. A strange match in this way as the fish did what fish do and avoided the bait at times whilst their presence could be seen most of the match. Struggling to keep them settled on the feed bait for most of the match but its still why we go and also why its called fishing not catching. Every days a learning day.
So peg 2 office for the day, Zak on peg 3 next door, Max in corner peg 4, Andy W8 on 6 and John Lanelly on point peg7 that filled the bay to my left. Peg 2 also have the unenviable position and options of the bay to the left, aerator and walkway bank if you chose to chuck to it.

With car park almost full, queues outside the tackle superstore and loads of cars now outside the newly opened Café I was glad I stocked up on pallets on our last visit and could go straight to my peg. Loving the Friday night draw but I do miss the pre match socialising, banter and pi$$ take we used to experience pre COVID. Hopefully we can get back to normal soon whilst remaining safe and not taking risks to ourselves and family members.

Zak asked the question on my tactics today and I simply said margin to my left and margin to my right. Although there were a couple of other lines set up till I could prime the lines. Top 2 + 2 at 10 o'clock, margin on top 2 to my left in front of sedges and then to my right I played Russian roulette to the sedges on top 2 + 4 as they were knocking all over the place. Also feeder set up to chuck to corner if required or whilst I had my snap!.

Whistle for all in and top 2 + 2 line however it took a couple of minutes to bury this week and John Lanelly won the first fish prize, then Max and myself. Zak then soon followed.so could this be a fish fest or were they flash in the pans? A variety of styles were being fished by everyone, top2 + 2, long pole shallow by Zak, alongside reeds by Max, feeder to centre of bay by Andy W8 and John Lanelly after chucking his feeder out originally went on his pole long then short.

After my first F1 and no bites keep coming I gave in to the little voice inside my head which was screaming look at those sedges knocking to my right. Hey ho and away we go. I did extract a few F1s however at 11:30 and 8th hook my temperament was being tested. I tried to draw the fish closer but they wouldn't play too much. My left hand margin was next to useless and all match only managed 2 fish from it. The top 2 line was also dead so it was carnage city with the sedges. I did chuck the feeder to the corner but only had one liner. Anyhow I kept plugging away and at 2pm I switched off hard pellet to paste and the quality of fish increased with 3 lumps landed and more catch and release specimens which it seems cost me on the weigh in. 44-12 and second in section by default ?.
Zak had a good start on his shallow line but was also catching bits and the occasional F1. He then went to his margin on his left and also dropped in on carnage city with the overhanging tree being his demon. He had a good start to the match but the snags took their toll on his end kits and tackle.

Max started well along the reeds, he chucked a feeder across to the corner and caught a few then struggled for long spells before a good run towards the end to see him home with a  match win, well done.
Andy w8 has spells of fish and no fish as he swapped and changed to chase for bites. His best spell would have been late on switching off feeder to bomb chucking mid way across the bay but I guess the tight pegging cost him.
John Lanelly fished a very tidy match catching from all his lines and seemed to always have his landing net in his hands. He did also loose quite a few but I was surprised he did not weigh in more with the number of fish caught. Well doe John on the section win.

Great write up once again Leo

Where to start ..... Jasper drew me peg 5 and we all knew it was going to be a tough day at the office with so many body's on but happy to be tucked away in a corner.

If I was a little less social today I apologise, I have had tough last 12 months which came to ahead at 4am Saturday morning with a phone call from the nursing home informing that Mum had passed away in the last 30 minutes .
I have had 3 phone calls this week 2 around midnight and 1 midday all saying I think you need to be here but on each occasion Mum stabilised , unfortunately the last call came to late for me to be there with her but hey at least she passed in her sleep . This might sound harsh strange what ever but I am totally at peace with Mum passing yes I am upset Of course  but relived she will not have to suffer any more and the same for my to Brothers as the past 12 months has been very hard.

I was throwing stones up at my brothers window at 5am trying not wake all his family I just didn't think I could tell this news over the phone.

Did I do wrong coming fishing I will let you all judge that but for me it was the best thing I could have done instead of sitting there all day and doing nothing.

Onto the fishing I fished two lines at 6mt and two lines at 13mt and chucked a method across when it was snap time or coffee time.

Picked the odd fish up of each line , all lines fished with a 6mm or 4mm hard pellet did try 6mm expander but only 2 fish on this .
Fed my pole lines with 4mm pellet and left margin with 2 pints caster which produced 6 perch and a roach !
At 3:20 going no where and was going to go on the method for the last 30 minutes and this was just so I could tackle down all my rigs etc I thought I would just try my 6mt line for one last go . Well it was solid feeding 4 or 5 pellets lowering the rig in and the float just kept going under .

So fishing wise turned out to be a good day the win as always a bonus and one I never expected of peg 5
And to the rest of the day apart from being totally wrecked emotionally and physically knackerd just another chapter in my life sadly closed today .

Sorry for this post but saves me explaining how things have been to you my friends .

steve

Thanks for the good write ups boys.

Sorry for your loss Max. Sad time for you and your family. There's more to fishing than catching fish, as a wiseman said. Yesterday it gave you the break you needed. Well done pal.
