Rd  7 Big Bash Summer League Bank End West Lake 5.7.25

Short one this one.

Round 7 saw 16 names enter Jaspers spinning wheel of peg numbers, 13 bashers and 3 of our Big Bash Guests giving us an 80% uptake. Weather warm, over cast with some sunny spells and a stubborn at times blustery wind blowing West to East down the lake.

We have fished this lake before with some mixed results so it was time for another visit to the deep old quarry lake. Established trees however access from cars to pegs could be improved with some poor steps and some steep slopes to scramble up and down. Lake size just about right if we had 20 members.

Dire day at the races for Leo. Corner peg looks nice  seemed devoid of fish and full of branches and twigs. 1 small skimmer in my net at 12:30 changed things round to "winter elastic" then was able to connect with bites a little better fishing paste at full depth 2+2. The bites however were from small skimmers, no carp paid a visit to peg 20 today
Nothing on hybrid feeder, bomb, slow sinker, and only a small perch from Margin on worm. Baits tried,  Pellet, wafters, corn, meat , worm, and dead reds. Only bites and very iffy ones at that on Paste on 2+2 line. Hey ho, good company from Bashers was the only positive, oh and another Bash match with no rainfall.
Mrs M please remove all sharp objects for me

I must thank the lovely large tracked digger driver who kept dragging his bucket along the edge of the road behind the boundary fence to my right.

Well done to Keith and rest of packet pickers as they figured the place out. Please share tic tacs for future reference.
Many thanks to Jasper for the organisation once again. To Steve for weighing in duties and also good to have our whistle blower John Lanelly back off his Irish jollies.

Our next match in 2 weeks time at Messingham Sands Island Lake. Please confirm attendance and pay on to help admin. Also beef up your tackle for the hard fighting Island zoo creatures.

Wheel of fortune gave me peg 7 didnt want pegs 2 to 8 notoriously hard on that side, fished far worse than i expected.Started on sinking feeder not a sign, feeder long and short nothing, paste on top 4 produced my first bite after an hour, either side where not catching anything but kieth on end peg was catching well, tried everything again, not a bite all day on sinking feeder or method just picked odd one up on 4m and edges just f1s and skimmers, all on paste .Was a very hard match for all on our bank fron 1 to 8 except kieth on peg 9 which is not the best peg but the room helped but well fished kieth.

write up below from our match winner Keith Smith, much appreciated

Nice write up Leo.
That digger certainly didn't do you any favors.
Well looking at recent opens on West Lake.
Pegs 9 to 13 have been left out and with a message from Codders "you're right where you don't want to be,in the middle between pegs 7 to 12.CRAP"
Thought my match was over before it started 🤣.
I had a jigger and 3 overshotted rigs set up for shallow with casters.
A top 2 plus 1 in 3ft of water out in front at 2 o'clock.
A left and right margin finding the same depth of about 18".
All in and fed my top 2 plus 1 with micros with 4 dead reds on the hook and started to feed my shallow line about 9mtrs out.
Missed bite after about 10 mins.Another pot of micros and it sailed away with a 9lb carp in the net. Some missed bites and a small f1 and a perch in the 1st 40 mins.
Went out with the jigga and it was perch city.
All the time keeping my short line fed.
Persevered with the shallow line and started getting skimmers.
I probably had about 30lb of skimmers shallow along with 2 small carp and a small f1.
Kept trying my short line throughout the match but never had another bite.
Fed my margins at 2pm.
Left with meat n micros.
Right with Aquastim green Supreme and a pinch of dead reds.
Kept having a little try but didn't get a fish till about 15:15.
Then had the rest of my weight off the gb and mags.
Never had a bite off the meat n micros.
