Big Bash Wrinkly knock up 7 Springvale Duchess Lake 22.2.25
Following requests from fellow Wrinklies I was able to arrange a match on Duchess Lake with help from Sue Bloom and the lake was shared with a winter league on the lower pegs. We were given 14 to 29 so lots of room which was appreciated and pegs at lower end spaced to avoid any casting issues to the end island.  Thursday saw Duchess give the highest weight on the comp-lex with 75lb from peg 27. Following weeks of cold temperatures, cloudy skies and rain, this week we had an appearance from the sun and slightly warmer temperatures. This in mind all Bash Wrinklies cast aside their thermals, battery heated socks, waistcoats and the likes to sit in the sun with hoodies on, or at least for a time until the wind got up.

Everyone at the car park meeting place on time, some early birds catching up and Mr Guy kindly loaned his car boot for our office table. Then kindly assisted by Steve and his side kick Paul with the pegging numbers and draw bag we progressed to the draw. I in the meantime waited for something to go wrong knowing how these two operate.
Wrong numbers, missing peg tally, oh what could go wrong with our resident jokers in charge of the pegs........ all went seamlessly, relax Leo.

Anyhow with Indian in charge of timekeeping the shout went up and everyone completed their match.

Peg 15 Paul Quinton on end peg with wind blowing in completed 8-12 made up of a decent carp and numerous silvers.

Peg 16 Paul "Smiler" Atton 3 or 4 carp I think and silvers to give him 19-12 and match win and combined with his lovely solo photo on the Springvale face book page this will take some beating from his good friend Steve Guy. Facing the wind Paul  caught on bread and maggots, well done sir.

Peg 19 Mark Radford came 2nd in section with 12-1

Peg 20 Tracey Benson 1st in section with 3 carp and silvers off his pole using pellets then maggots

Peg  22 Kev Indian Webster took 6-7 to the scales. Kev fished maggot feeder, bomb and pole for  a small carp and silvers.

Peg 23 Leo weighed in 6-12 and
thanks for coming. The honeymoon period of January match wins is well and truly over and normal service is resumed. Day started badly as setting up and clipping my maggot feeder rig I managed to hook a pellet waggler line with fish still attached on it. Indian came to help land it but it managed to snap me so I lost all terminal tackle. Next plumbing up my pole line the plummet dropped off  my hook, rolled down a hole in my foot plate and plopped in the  lake of the end of the slab. Grrrr.
Anyhow maggot feeder was the method allegedly what was working, so first chuck and tip moved and small roach was in the net. Continued with this method for about an hour resulting in a couple more small roach and a decent skimmer. Lots of small indications, flat maggots but not many bites to strike into and catch fish. Very frustrating. Tried bomb but nothing. Pole line set at 10m however the wind had moved to blowing across  the peg right to left so it was hard work in presenting a stationary bait. Small roach and a couple of Ide in net. 12 o'clock the bites and indications stopped altogether. The rest of the match was about swapping and changing lines baits etc to try for a carp or anything that swam. Hard work made harder with the cross wind . A few small roach were caught a 8 ounce F1 and a pound and half Tench ( which was nice) .

Peg 25 was Ryan Webster (completing me in the middle of an Indian sandwich) Ryan also fished maggot feeder and pole and similar to me and his dad struggled for bites. He did manage to register 11-8 on the scales for a 2nd in section. Well done Ryan
Peg 26 Steve Guy took 5-8 to the scales and suffered frustrations like the rest of us.

Peg 28 Nige Cooke also on the frustration bus and chucked back a small net.

Peg 29 John Utting weighed in 11-8. John had some small silvers and 2 carp which came as he tried a new line fishing his pole head on into  the wind. It was enough for a 1st in section.

Most anglers tried the maggot feeder. Bomb and  long pole lines with maggot as this was what was reported to  be the way they were catching earlier in the week. Strange thing was it didn't work for us today. The Ide were missing and carp also not playing. The carp caught were of a decent stamp so hopefully a few more warm days and they will start feeding.

The other knock up match on numbers 1 to 11 also suffered a similar fate as our group. It sounded like they fished the venue fairly regular so we should take comfort in our match results.

As per usual the fishery presented itself looking lovely and clean. Nice pot hole free roads and park behind your peg. Efficient car handling on entry to the fishery with 3 people selling bait or taking money. New NuFish keepnets and landing nets out on Duchess lake and these will soon be added to other lakes replacing the old stock. All included in your pegging fee. Bait, hook and set up checks also completed  by fishery staff who also offer advice during the process on recent lake or peg advice.

Many thanks to Steve and Paul for the assistance at match start. Also t Mark and Kev for weighing in help.
Next wrinkly match is 1st March and this is now full. There are pegs available for Osprey knock up on 15th March, please be in touch.
