Wrinklies knock up 6 Grange Park Curlew 1.2.25

3rd visit in as many weeks for some of us to Grange Park with this visit to Curlew Lake. Mixed winter  weather again prior to our knock up however another welcome dry cloudy day  promised. Temperature of 3 degrees to start rising to a mahousive 6 degrees, water flat calm except for an occasional cold breeze at the top end of the lake.

11 anglers in the Wrinkly knock up, some regulars on their jollies however we welcomed 4 newbies  Jacko. Woolfy , Rich Cooke and Mick Roche coming out of his summer hibernation.

The whole of Curlew lake kindly donated by Alan for our 11 anglers and pegging with 6 on Heron side and 5 on café side. Payouts spread as winner, first and second in sections.  Previous form has come from middle area of lake however pegging was spaced giving spare pegs for everyone each side. All paid on and draw made in carpark kindly assisted by Glen and it was to our pegs hoping the fish were to feed.

Peg 6 todays office with Jacko to my left, Mick Roche to my right and John Utting directly opposite. Peg 6 is an open water peg however with no angler on 5 I could reach the end of an island to chuck to.  The water level is well up and now at the base of platforms, I guess approximately 18inch deeper than the last time I fished it in the warmer months.

Plan today was another rod approach, maggot feeder, method and the trusty bomb which I have recent success with. Pole was left in the car and I had it in my mind carp would win the match over silvers.  I was in a minority as this didn't stop some other anglers setting poles up.
With a quick set up we were able for a 9:45 start and retained planned finish time of 3pm. First fish award goes to Glen on peg 17 who was quickly followed by Mark on 10, Quinney on peg 21 then Steve Guy on peg  2 landed a decent carp. Curlew lake offers good visibility for everyone and also banter to be had with all anglers involved.
10mm bread discs was first choice on my bomb rod, and these were chucked around the full peg. 10mm changed to 8mm, 2 discs to 3 discs and back to 2 discs. Length of pop up adjusted to try coax some activity in my peg. 90 minutes in and tip twitched and striking resulted in a welcomed pound and half carp in net. At least I avoided being water licked. Bread to corn, back to bread, method out with fishery micros and 5mm Aquastim fruit fizz wafter and it was 1 oclock ish when my rod tip moved again and a secnd fish in my net, a small F1. Maggot feeder also tried but no joy on this at all. My match panned out with 2 bites, 2 fish. No other movement not even a liner to record and offer encouragement. 2lbs 1 oz, thanks for coming.  Hero to zero in a week, that's fishing for you.

Section 1
Peg 2 Steve Guy ( not Keith) set off well with a nice carp on his rod which wasn't followed by any friends. Steve did catch several silvers on his pole to record 6-19 for a second in section result. Well done mate.
Peg 4 Saw Steve Jackson who set off on his pole then to his rods and back on his pole. Steve like myself took a long time to register his first fish, then a few came close together from in front of the island. He also managed one on the pole which made his day. Steve record 2lbs for all his efforts and not for the want of trying.
Peg 6 Leo 2-1 thanks for coming.
Peg 8 Mick Roche who  made a rare winter session to fish with us and spent a frustrating 4 hours with 2 fish to show for all his efforts. Mick spent this time casting to the left and in front of the island, also in open water to his left. At 2pm hi chucked to the right of the island and the rod wrapped around. He caught several more and lost one before the  end of the match  and recorded 6-9 and wishing he had moved to the right hand side of the island earlier. Glad you could join us mate.
Peg 10 saw Big Mark Radford in residence. Mark drew and run to the peg thinking it was where he had fished and won previously however previously it had been a lower number. Mark set off well with 2 fish in the first 15 minutes. He did catch on and off in spells throughout the match with a corn and bomb approach fishing to the island in front of him. Mark weighed in 19-8 for a section win and also second in the match. Well done mate

Section 2
Big Glen after several matches on peg 27 managed to draw opposite end peg 17 and took advantage of the spacious end peg. With a fish on his first chuck on bread, Glen alternated pole and rod throughout the match searching for bites. Corn is what he had success on and despite some bite less gaps,  put fish in his net in runs to record the best weight of our match and a winning  29-10.  Well done Glen.
Peg 19 had Tracey who chose to fish pole all match in various lines. It was a long time before the fish were interested and after fish on expanders he had a good run with corn as his hook bait. 17-00 for a section win and 4rd in match. Well done sir.
Peg 21 was the home for Paul Quinton. Paul caught small fish for the first period of the match and then they shut down completely for the second half of the match.
Peg 23 had John Utting in residence. A mixed approach of rods and pole resulted in a weight of mixed small fish of 6-6 and second in section. Well done John.
Peg 25 Was home for Richard Cooke. And whilst his good friend John Lanelly set off sailing the high seas on various cruise liners, Rich was wrapped up in thermals to face the cold here in North Lincolnshire. Rod and pole choice of weapons and  2-4 was the return of the days efforts, well done buddy, its been a long day for most of us.
End peg 27 had Woolfy in residence and again had a mixed approach of pole and rods. Another long day at the office similar to last week and the hard work resulted in 1-10. Well done mate and hopefully have you with us again soon.

A long difficult day for everyone but as usual everyone stuck it out, well done and thank you for the support.
Mr Guy and Mr Utting. I have your second in second monies if you remind me next time we meet please. interest rate is a non taxable 3 kernels of corn per fortnight.
