A "knock up" is arranged on 7th December at Lodge Farm on Thistle Lake.

Match fee to be paid on Saturday and draw to be on day either in café or car park as I understand it is only a small café.

pegging and pools to be paid on the day for 08:15 am. Please bring correct money to help match admin.
Draw to be at 08:15 prompt

Match fee and pay-outs will depend on number of anglers when I have confirmations so I can cover fishery costs.

Please be aware of fishery and Big Bash AC rules.

Please indicate below if interested. Cut off for names will be Wednesday 4th December so pegging and costs can be firmed up.

Apologies I cannot guarantee the weather or catching of 3 full nets of fish as it is winter. There will as always be the warmth and friendly banter on the bankside.

Big Bash Wrinklies Knock Up Lodge Farm Thistle Lake 7.12.24.

Second knock up and second named storm to content with. Curlew and Storm Bert gave us a massive down pour and all day drenching. Todays named storm, Darragh also brought rain but delivered high gusty cold winds which were the biggest issue to contend with. Ill try avoid any more named storms on the next knock up, but cant promise,😊. Sunday the weather  looks to have deteriorated even further as Darragh delivers its rain to our region so I think we got off lightly.

As with these knock ups they are random and late bookings where we can obtain a suitable venue. This weeks choice was Lodge Farm and Thistle lake. First time for myself although other bashers have fished it previously. For the records, Thistle lake is a 22 peg small triangular shaped lake, and I should suggest ideal for small knock up matches but pegging has to be closely managed as the focal point of the lake is an aerator which could cause casting issued if everyone chooses to chuck to it. Carp and ide prime species which carp stamp seem today between a pound and 4 pound, good weight builders. Platforms scaffold frame and mesh over the water. Edges are established sedge lined, grass banks and park behind your peg, just like the Bash wrinklies love.
A great turn out of 10 bashers despite the weather forecast were waiting for me when I arrived at Lodge farm café. Several enjoying the café breakfasts whilst monies collected and draw conducted, thanks Dave for loaning your hat for the peg numbers to be drawn from. It was then a short drive to the lake which is situated behind Sand Martin lake.

Peg 47 for yours truly with Glen on 45 to my right and Smiler on 49 to my left. My plan was bomb and maggot feeder rods. Pole lines for pellet and maggot at top 2 + 2 which about 5 foot of water. Didn't fancy fishing further in the wind which was direct in my face.

Everyone set up early so Glens whistle blew at 09:30 for the all in. first fish were caught by Steve Guy who on peg 35 chucked across to the aerator following on from Glens session in the same peg yesterday. Tracey Benson in fancied corner peg 43, Big Glen then joined the catch up party as well  then John Utting on peg 51. In the first 30 minutes Steve had 4 fish in his net from his bomb and corn approach and everyone was wondering how many nets he was going to require. Dave Fox started his campaign with his first fish about half an hour into the match, again on bomb and corn.  Peg 47 action was dormant despite loosing a fish on my first chuck as I was getting no bites all time while Glen ( on bomb rod and corn)had his head down in catch mode next door along with Tracey fishing to reeds in corner. Smiler also was struggling on his feeder rod and switched to his pole line where he found small skimmers. I rested my bomb line to have a go on the pole and try avoid a DNW which I have primed to see if this would help kick start my match but again no bites all still. 30 minutes and another change back to the Bomb rod. I had chose to chuck this short and been feeding about 20 m which I could reach with catty despite the wind. 10 minutes and the rod whipped round and fish on. Back out and a little wait before the rod ripped off its rest as I was reaching for my catapult. Same happened again a little later as the bites were very aggressive despite the size of the carp being caught. Anyhow with clutch set very light we were good and no lost rod or need to jump in after it.
The match panned out with majority of bites on single hair rigged corn. I did switch a few times to 2 discs of 8mm bread which also brought results when it seemed the bites were a long time coming. The afternoon session on peg 47 was definitely stronger than the morning and a good last 90m minutes with fish regularly coming to the net. I think I had about 20 carp for and end weight of 39-2 and thanks for coming. Lost 2 fish, missed about 3 bites and even missed my keep net with a fish of about a pound, doh.  Despite the wind and rain it did make an enjoyable days session.

Around the lake:
Section 1 peg 33 Mark Radford weighed in 34-7 taken mostly on short pole on maggot for  a second in section result. Bit of trend coming here with Mark and maggot tactics, well done mate.
Peg 36 Steve Guy who  set off like a train weighed in 43-5 on Bomb and corn for a section win. Also the pound side bet from his mate smiler which I think will be more important. Well done mate.
Peg 36 Dave Fox who had a slow start on Bomb and corn but the fish kept coming and a good even split in his two nets for 83-11 and match win. Very good weight this one Dave and hope it goes towards the tackle breakages and carnage you had.
We move around the corner onto the next bank which fished harded.
Peg 39 Wayne Smith weighed in 26 dead and peg 40 Paul Quinton weighed in 18-14 to complete the first section. Well done lads and thanks for sticking it out.

Second section on same bank was John Lanelly on Peg 41 who brought 30-7 to the scales. His main success came off Bomb rod casting longer out for a good second half of the match.
Corner peg 43 was Tracey Benson who caught throughout the day fishing pole to the reeds. Despite a few mishaps added 48-7 to the scales for a section win.
Next door neighbour on peg 45 was Glen who had a match of 2 halves. First half 26-15 in his net, second half 17.0 after a very long spell of np bites all time amd frustration which cost him. Bomb and corn tactics after a sneaky practise Friday with John Utting. Well done mate and thanks for help and company as always.
Peg 47 Leo 39-2
Peg 49 Smiler who had an entertaining match to say the least. Paul struggled and it would be later afternoon when he caught his first carp on long chucks to aerator which is where others were catching. Paul ended up with a couple of carp and some small skimmers off his pole line. The retrieval of his umbrella was his highlight after assistance from John Utting after some severe gusts of wind created a memorable battle of will he blow away or wont he. Well done mate.
Peg 51 John Utting fishing bomb and corn on chucks to the aerator set off well but also suffered long gaps between bites as fish left his swim John added 23-7 to the scales well done mate.

We were lucky to set up in the dry and somehow managed to also pack in and weigh in the dry whilst battling the high winds. The rain in the middle was dealt with by our weather proof clothing and 4 brave souls put brolleys up but the surging wind after 11 am soon caused these to be put down.

I am happy everyone caught fish which is much better than the cold wet knock up a couple of weeks ago.
Many  thanks to Glen for admin assistance and score sheet. Also the various guys helping with nets to assist me weighing in. Also Steve and Dave putting my nets away. A great team effort all round.

Big Bash Fur and Feather next Saturday on the 14th, please let us know if interested in fishing as its on Laurels at Lindholme. It may be winter but the warmth on the bankside makes it all worthwhile.

Also keep am eye out for other knock ups when posted on our forum, face book or WhatsApp group pages.
