Big Bash Wrinkly knock up 9 Grange Park Osprey 15.3.2025

Sharp frost overnight and car to scrape free of ice before travelling to Grange Park for our knock up on Osprey. The Big Bash breakfast well fed in Tonys café and waiting for yours truly. Assisted by Mick Roche with the draw, all paid on very timely and draw made then off to Osprey for my own and several others first visit since its  facelift and redesign.  Deeper, several islands down the centre, new larger platforms all round with good access steps on the field bank. Fair to say it hasn't switched on yet (similar to a lot of lakes in our area that have struggled this winter) but its fishing and anything can happen. Brilliant winter sunshine was greeting us but it was definitely a day of two types of weather. When the sun shone and the wind dropped it was lovely, however dark clouds would block out the sun and the North wind blowing from the top bank would mean it was absolutely freezing.

Mick as timekeeper, fishing 10 to 3:30 and on the all in some anglers were quickly into  fish raising hopes of a good day.  The day panned out very frustrating with bites hard t ocome by for most of us, very hard to come by indeed. Some searched for fish and found them eventually but they were quick to move on. Tracey Benson kept up his winning streak from Steve Gregorys midweek match to catch throughout the day although he did suffer some long waits at time. However his consistent catching small carp and F1s, keeping the net being topped up gave him a well earned match win. Well fished mate.

Peg 2 Nigel Cooke DNW
Peg 4 John Lanelly 12lb. persevered and located fish on long pole around 1pm
Peg 6 Keith Smith  13.14 pole caught fish across  numerous lines with a few on feeder
Peg 8 Phil Codlin ( venue expert) 21.10 some on various pole lines and feeder to island. SECTON WIN
Peg 10 Andy Waite 20.13 most on feeder (chucked everywhere he could reach ) and long pole 2nd in SECTION
Peg 18 Paul Quinton 11.3 caught on rods early on to end of island
Peg 20 John Utting 16.1 caught mostly on rod to end of island early on
Peg 22 Mark Radford 44.13 quiet start on feeder then good last couple of hours at 7m on pole SECTION WIN
Peg 24 Tracey Benson 54-8 fishing to island MATCH WIN
Peg 26 Leo Martin 17.5 struggled with 1 carp and a "baby" till 2:45 then 3 more to end of match on feeder. Fish "just turned up" as I lost one ( sorry for swearing) and missed a bite ( didn't swear) also in this last ¾ hour. Maybe if they had arrived earlier as they were decent fish, maybe.....
Peg 29 Mick Roche 29.5 feeder to end of lake, bomb in front a couple on short pole. 2nd in SECTION

There was a match on Heron behind us and they had left out the shared bank except for a couple of end pegs. The guy behind Mick had 53 fish for 6lb and I also understand Curlew also struggled as well so our result didn't look too bad.

Well done to Tracey again on match win, packet pickers who figured it out. Also everyone else who stuck it out and kept trying all match. Fish caught on soft pellets , corn  and maggots for  those wondering, If you want to know more, maybe you should fish the knock ups 😊

Thanks to Mick for assistance on match admin and timekeeping. also Steve Curtis for pegging.

Next week Big Bash winter league visits Osprey for its final match and its close at the top of the league. If Osprey fishes similar it will be interesting to say the least.

Next knock ups booked 29th March Lodge Farm Lily lake places available. 5th April Springvale Golden 1 places maybe available however book will close Monday 17th at 6pm. Please  be in touch if interested.

Also can you please confirm if joining the Big Bash 2025 summer league as decisions on numbers and monies will have to be made soon.
