Big Bash Wrinkly knock up 11 Springvale Golden 1 5.4.25

Weather changes continue with cold nights  and bright sunshine in the daylight accompanied by cold Eastern winds, nay very cold easterly winds.

Pegs 1 to 10 for 6 anglers so plenty of room to share with 1 on its own end bank and the other 9 pegs alongside the entry road. A second club shared the lake on opposite bank and other end of lake peg.
All paid on and draw made we went to the short drive to the pegs hard standings.  A strange greeting was awaiting us which took an attraction to one of own.
Sue has now got some Turkeys fenced in the woods behind Oak Avenue lake and golden 1 lake giving it gobble, gobble all day long. But more troubling is a multitude of chickens roaming loose around the lake and are very domesticated and tame. These birds helped reveal the Big Bash chicken whisperer, Mr John (Colonel Sanders) Utting. He even had the chickens hopping into the back of his van, and no doubt will be on his Xmas wish list for a pet unless the Easter bunny delivers an egg that hatches out for him .

The fishing at springvale is usually busy with silvers or carp feeding. Today the wind seemed to effects things ( need something to blame) as with the wind blowing from peg 1 to 11 as a cross wind when it was blustery bites stopped for those who were getting them. When the wind dropped then bites seemed to be had.

Peg 1 with the whole end of the palke saw Paul ( the rod)  Whitehouse who chose a rod approach for the day. Chucking method to the end of the island gave his best rewards, fishery micros and wafter. He also gave the waggler a good go and caught on maggots on this method.
Peg 3 saw Nigel Cooke in residence, he fished his pole on a couple of lines out in front but moved into his left hand margin around 12:00 and caught from the off. Going quite well however in the afternoon the fish moved on leaving his about 2 hours bite less.
Peg 5 saw John chicken whisperer Utting. A few chucks on method to island resulted in a carp however seeing fish caught by others on the pole moved to try keep in touch. The fish were hard to settle down once a couple were caught. He then alternated pole lines and method looking for bites and then the rod tip went around and carp were engaged form close to the island itself. John spent most of the afternoon as carp were giving occasional bites but the reward was far greater than the smaller silvers close on the pole. One fish was close to 10lb which gave a merry dance taking my line with it from the next peg however it was soon in his net. Both side margins were tried for no reward at all.
Peg 6 was my office for the day. My plan was method and bomb rod, pole line 2 + 2 and margin to my right. Maggots, pellets and corn.
Method rod chucked out to island whilst feeding maggot line, nothing on method rod at all. Pole line was small skimmers, occasional ide and small crucians. Difficulty feeding loose by hand due to cross wind I started a line at 2+1 which gave a similar stamp of fish. When gaps in bites method was tried again however this also only gave Ide, whilst John was catching carp much to my annoyance.  Margins were tried several times and the result was 3 Ide.. you got a bite, fish then nothing else.
After wasting most of afternoon chasing carp on method I dropped back on the 2+1 line and was result was a much better stamp of skimmers, carp  and a solitary tench.
Peg 8 saw venue regular Indian who chose pole only. Fishing out in front he was achieving a much better stamp of Ide and  they travelled regular to his net. He had to swap and change and shortened his lines  looking for  consistent bites. He moved into his right hand margin early afternoon and started catching some carp but not as consistent as his neighbour on peg 10. Kev was fishing mid water and not on the bottom like yours truly.
Peg 10 with loads of room and suffering the cold wind more than most as it blew in to him was John Lanelly. Fishing in front he has some success but in the afternoon, he started fishing and catching from his right hand margin. Using a maggot and pole approach, John strung together bites and fish to build a match winning net, well done John.

Peg 1 Paul Whitehouse 51.0 section win
Peg 3 Nige Cooke 31-10
Peg 5 John Colonel Sanders Utting 42-4
Peg 6 Leo Martin a dismal 14-12
Peg 8 Kev Indian Webster 43-3 section win
Peg 10 John Lanelly 54-14 match win

The other match opposite also struggled with one leaving after about 3 hours.
Many thanks to John Lanelly for timekeeping, Nige Cooke assisting weighing in and John Utting scoring.

Next match is the start of the Big Bash Summer league Saturday 12th April at Hollywood Bowl, places still available.
Next Wrinkly Knock up Wednesday 16th back at Springvale, lake tbc. places still available .
