Good write up leo,all i can say is i wont bit rushing back to there or aston park, wind didnt help, but bites were hard to come by not my cup of tea sitting on long pole for 20 mins to catch a small bit.so sat on feeder most of the day which was not very productive as results show, reversing back and wieghing in the rain just finished it off nicely.well done to those who stuck it out in the wind to fish pole.

Round 3 Aquatstim Big Bash winter League Sherwood Forest fishery Sherwood Lake 9.12.23

After missing the first two Aquastim Winter League matches I was finally able to join my fellow nutters bank side. The 3rd match of our league was a trip down to Sherwood Forest fisheries for the roadside on Sherwood Lake which is a new venue for the club. The lead up to the match has seen cold nights then a slight increase in temperature and a load more cold rain dropped from up  above. The meandering road had lost is dusty title as it was full of standing water and well soaked through. The river Maun was flowing at a rate of knots with white water showing where it usually gently cascades over the rocks as it took on board the last 48 hours rain and more was falling for our match today.

All Jaspers hard work for the Friday night draw was soon shelved on arrival for a reshuffle and redraw (the old fashioned way). Our pegs had changed and even the tree side road was closed at bottom end due to collapsing with the wet conditions. Its entry was from top end only which meant an orderly drive down to park behind the pegs then reversing back out again. I must say the team discipline for this was faultless, well done all.
Another club was sharing the lake and they were field side having left the first 6 pegs out which were given to the Big Bash.
Special well done to Jasper for his impromptu and hastily arranged re draw when everyone had arrived (2 lads from Bentley were last this week just after yours truly).

14 anglers playing today, 12 members and guests Chezzy Dan and Tackle Tart joining as welcome friends.
Anyhow long story short peg 4 stuck to my hand. Chessy Dan on 2 and Tackle Tart on 6. We heard these pegs were not supposed to be any good but we did have the luxury of parking field side and not reversing a long way up the tree side road.

I don't think anyone else was fishing on the complex, Sherwood was supposed to have been made into a silvers lake with the odd stray carp left in.

My day started badly and continued to go downhill. I checked my maggots last night and all were a slumber so a little shake for them to let them know they would be needed Saturday resulted somehow in them becoming wet and about 300 of the little blighters escaping into my fridge. Brilliant. Caught a few but no doubt the others will appear in a few weeks' time i a different form.

Set up for today was small maggot feeder, method (just in case), a pole line at 2+2 and a 10 line. Water depth was about 3 and half feet deep for both pole lines on a silty bottom.

The rain was pelting down and a horrible wind was blowing right to left. The weather did change with rain stopping around lunchtime, wind even dropped and sun peeked out then quickly receded to be replaced by an even more horrible cold wind which gave 4 inch waves at times. My platform started an inch and half above water level but was 2 inch underwater for the end of the match.

Big Glens whistle blew and I chucked out maggot feeder to midway to see how it would go whilst I fed the pole lines. Half hour later, nothing. Started on short pole line and one bite but nothing when I lifted up. Out to long pole line and was on 20 hook, 2lb hook length and single maggot and first fish, a small stripy perch. 2 more in quick succession then they went. Throughout match tried most things in the" how to catch a fish book of tricks" but it was small perch or small perch all the way. I did have one Ide and a 6 ounce perch but nothing else and 2-7 thanks for coming. It was like taking 60 years off my life to being a kid with single maggot on a 20 in order to try catch a fish.

Chezzy Dan on peg 2 who won the match (well done sir) caught his fish mostly on long pole swapping a couple of lines but he was also on the single maggot trick. He did have good run of fish with one every put in until the afternoon wind arrived which killed his swim as well.  Strangely the majority of Dan's fish were also small perch but he had amassed 11-6 of the little blighters for a match win.
Keith to my right fished long pole most of the day until strong winds made him come short. Keith's weighed in 4-3 for a second in section behind section 1 winner Tracey Benson on peg 8 with a well-earned 9-3.

These 3 results meant I didn't go away empty handed as I received a nice Xmas labelled bottle of wine from the vineyard of sunny scunny I think bottled by the lovely Fiona I am told. Cheers this brought a smile.

Second section winner was that man john Utting again who weighed in 6-15 off peg 30. Second in section was a tie big Glenn peg 28 and Jasper peg 36 both weighing in 4-7. Well done lads

Third section winner was Big John Lanelly with 5-2 off peg 42 and second in section Paul Whitehouse 4-12 off end peg 46. Well done both of you.

Bloody hard day at black rock this one with fish not feeding and atrocious weather conditions. It didn't end there as we even had hail mixed with rain for packing in and poor Steve doing his weighing in round, thank you mate.
Nice to See Steve in his new Aquastim branded clothing, I hope it kept you dry as more bad news for Leo as I found out my Bib and Brace have sprung a leak resulting in a wet backside, doh.

Everyone stuck this out to the bitter end, I won't count the fact most had cars boxed in. Some very low disheartening weights and a new member of the 2023 winter league no bite club.

Next match is our fur and Feather on a seasonal 23rd December at Lindholme lakes on Laurels. Please make an effort to join our Xmas special, places available for this annual light hearted match.

Next Winter League match is in 2024 on Curlew at Messingham Grange Park on January 13th. Please book on in a timely manner to help the admin and fingers crossed for a few bites to be had.

Big Thanks to Jasper for the admin and Steve for weighing in duties. Really apprecaicetd by everyone.

Finally we have 20 names down for membership to the 2024 summer league and a restriction of 24 to close on January 1st so please let us know if you are joining us.

Guys, what lines are everyone using on your method / feeder rods. I currently use Brownjng but there looks to be an availability issue.
Thanks in advance
