Big Bash 2025 summer league membership update 2.3.25
Team, we have a few urgent questions to address about our match booking figures for the 2025 summer league season.
In 2025 we had 23 members of the summer league club and we booked 20 pegs per venue
Currently we have 14 members names down for the 2025 season and have booked 20 pegs per venue
We have 16 venues booked for the 2025 season and 20 pegs at each venue.
The financial costs of 6 spare pegs per venue shows an approx. short fall of 6 x 10 x 16 = £960. If we don't act now the club faces this massive shortfall of covering the surplus pegging fees.
Speaking to Jasper we both agree that the club should quickly act to reduce this financial risk to the club.
We don't believe the match fee or pay-outs should be adjusted to compensate for the vacant pegs.
We also cannot rely on riders to make up the numbers the whole season.
Our options we feel are: -
1 / Try to increase our membership via
A. friends and family
B. opening up a request on social media to see if anyone else wants to join our club
C. Are there any other options you can suggest?
2 / Accept our membership for the 2025 summer season is circa 14 members and speak to all the individual fisheries and reduce the requested pegs from 20 per match to 14 or another number as per membership figures at the end of March .
It may require a combination of options 1 and 2 together and this may be the best route to take but we do need to respond urgently.
Our request to you our membership is that having shared the above numbers and reality of the situation what are your collective thoughts so we can make a judgement and protect the clubs finances.
Please respond below to help us best manage the situation.
I feel option 1A till middle of March and then run with option 2 if required and reduce booking of pegs.
It could backfire by getting squashed onto rubbish parts of lakes.
Club membership for me please
Try get some more members in first and then reduce pegs if struggling to make numbers. Me and Scott are willing to pay for peg fees for any matches we miss. I know I miss 3 due to weddings this year
I would be willing to pay for any matches missed as I know I'm going to miss a couple
Why not all members pay the £21 every Saturday the week before a club match if a rider can be found to fill the match give the peg fee back. I know this will cause extra admin work.

Same for me and also same as Paul i am more than happy to pay my money for the missed matches,i know i will miss at least 2 matches due to holidays.
Or failing that up the fees for the day to £25 to keep the 20 pegs. That way we get the added bonus of more room and if we get any riders to fill numbers, reduce the fees on the day accordingly.
If we don't get more members I am also happy to help make up the extra pegging fees.
Although thinking about it we rarely have every member on every match, so we would have to make up more than just five peg fees.
Reduce down to 15 if we don't get any new members.

"Give it 2 weeks then reduce pegs to 15 to allow for one rider"
Thankyou everyone for the contributions and ideas, all are very much appreciated and useful.
On the financial side if we were to keep the 20 pegs requested and look to cover the costs between the 15 members this would be a supplement in the region of 5 x 10 x 16 = £800 / 15 = £53.3 from each member. I'm not sure if this would be palatable from the whole membership as a one off payment for the 25 summer league. We will ask everyone prior to a decision when we have all ideas in as I am aware not everyone reads the forum or goes to type to share their views.
This excess payment could be spread by adding to the match fee at a cost of 53.5 - 16 = £3.3 rounded off to £4 so new match fee would be £25.
Some riders could be taken throughout the year which would help costs but we have to look on worse case scenario in order to protect club finances. There will also be the occasions when members cannot attend as already been mentioned earlier and not everyone would volunteer peg payments when they don't attend which is a potentially further drain on the club finances.
A request was placed on Facebook on Jaspers profile to see if any new members wanted to join us, as yet I am not aware of any uptake.
please keep adding and sharing opinions and views.
Two days left to vote on a reduction in pegs numbers or increase in pegging fees. Please add you opinion to aid decision making
As things have moved on now - we now have 16 members signed up to fish the summer league.
Each angler pays £20 extra at start of season to cover spare pegs = £320 already in kitty.
With 16 matches booked and potentially 4 to 5 people not turning up each match would cost from £32 to £50 per match. So shortfall would be between £500 to £800 for the season, less the £360 already paid then the rest would come out of club funds.
We do have the funds already in the club from last years extra payment and winter league payment.
It's a dilemma - extra room is always good - try and fill with riders and club funds takes the hit
Or reduce space and keep money in club, but how much should we have in funds as we carry a fair amount now.
Alongside raising pegging fees what if we also look at reducing payouts.
currently we pay win £50, 3 x section £25 ( 75) and 3 x second in section £15 ( 15) total £170 per match of 15 anglers.
if we amend payments slightly to win £30, 3 x section £ 15 (45) and 3 x 2nd in section £10 (30) total £105
this gives us a saving of £65 per week which reduces the burden on the club funds a lot.
Ive not run the figures if this could cover unpaid pegs or what we would need to raise match fees to as yet.
Any thoughts appreciated
Looks ok to me Leo let's go for it, it's about a good day out with like minded people
Agree. Reduce the payouts best option I think. It's unsustainable to pay out more than coming in.

Happy with that
