Big Bash Wrinkly knock up 10 Lodge Farm Lily Lake 29.3.25
More weather changes leading up to our day and although 3 degrees 6 am temperature there was some thin ice on the car windscreen. Promise however was dry, sunshine and clouds overcast and raising winds later in the afternoon.
We had been given the whole of railway side of Lily for 9 wrinklies so there was some space for everyone, the opposite bank was also empty.
Draw made and peg 73 was my office for the day with neighbours John Utting on corner peg 75 and a tanned Paul Whitehouse on peg 72.
All in shouted by our timekeeper Mr Lanelly and eagle eyed Paul managed to tempt a surface cruising Lily "Lump" to his pole offered hook bait dropped on its nose end to kick off with the first fish of the match when he was finally able to land it.
The pegging meant visibility and banter was difficult beyond your neighbour however the chatter and joking between John, Paul and I made for a great days verbal sport.
My plan was expander, maggot, method with wafters and also corn. Pole lines set up beyond shelf at 2+3 and also margin to my left ¾ to platform of 74 and also 74 platform. Also a waggler rod for first time this year.
Terrible time setting up my gear, tangle on waggler rod- rethread, knot in method rod line - rethread, then mishap with pole rig that required sorting and new hook on it. Also sorting bait out kicked over wafter tubs with 3 going though platform grid but managed to fish these out through grid doh.Ended up chucking first cast out about 10 minutes late despite our our draw being at 08:15 and start time 10.00.
A few small liners on method but no bites it was onto pole line which resulted in small roach couple of decent skimmers and an F1 to raise hopes but then the roach took over. Carp had been caught either side so it was time to do something different. Method again resulted in a small carp but nothing else. Wagler bites were a plenty however it was from 3 inch roach again. Margin which had some small carp cruising along had been fed but again no bites or interest at all. Around 1pm Corn was tried on bomb rod over an area I had been priming most of the match and the tip twitched in small jerky movements which revealed a decent skimmer. This was followed by several more and my frustrating day started to change slightly. I had a couple of carp also however lost 2 to broken hook lengths( thanks Drennan) and a large Lily munter which wrapped the whole of my rod round resulting in a breakage between hook length and bomb on my main line. Anyhow progress with skimmers continued and at one stage it was a fish a cast for about 6 casts to cheer me up slightly. The skimmers did drift in and out leaving some gaps between bites but overall it was a good afternoon compared to the morning session. 25-3 and thanks for coming. I did go back in margins and also try method rod again but once catching on bomb and corn I would not come off it as it was providing some much needed action.
John on 74 started on his method rod to pick up bites and fish alongside and just off the reed lines edge on the lake. Also several branches came out much to our amusement. On the pole lines john had some small skimmers. John tried his margin lines and rotated from pole in front, method rod to keep fish being put in his net. He spent the last 90 minutes fishing margins to his left along edge of lake and managed a few from that also as well as loosing a couple. 36-9 well done John
Paul on 72 after his first mugging went on pole I think and alternated pole and method picking up skimmers and carp. The bites also came and went, however carp alongside skimmers kept his weight building. Around 1:30 he also went onto bomb and managed to start to string together some consistent bites like myself. Difference was Paul had carp entering his keepnet not just skimmers. Paul had tried his margins for only one skimmer so quickly moved back on his rods. Paul weighed in 54-2 for a second in section.

Well fished Kev on the match win and other packet pickers. Overall a good match with bites for everyone. Some frustrations ss people searched for fish and others located and caught them. the stamp of silvers is very good when you get on the larger skimmers and regarding carp they come in all sizes and are very hard fighting testing tackle strength.
The weather held out so it was another good March days fishing however the cool breeze in the afternoon had coats being reached for.
Many thanks to John Lanelly for timekeeping. Mark for assisting in pegging admin and weighing in and Jasper scoring. Great team effort all around as others assisted each other.
Next match wrinkly knock up Saturday 5th April at Springvale on Golden1 lake.
We are also taking Big Bash AC summer league membership fees now and also bookings for the new league matches are on forum which starts on the 12th April.
