Wrinklies knock up 4 Lindholme Lakes Strip 28.12.24
With a reduced number of 8 fishing mid Xmas to offer Bashers stomachs a rest from the excess of food and drink. It would also reduce pressure on the zips holding their fishing clothing together as  it is an expensive item of clothing that we don't want to replace. Match arranged and set up when the Strip was the inform lake on the complex and guaranteed bites for most ha ha.

The overnight temperature had dropped to 2.5 degrees and fog and murk was still surrounding the area which it had been for the last couple of days, It was supposed to lift around 9am and warm up to 8 degrees, key word in that sentence being "supposed". The fog hung around all day, lifted slightly around 12 ish so Loco could eventually be seen then dropped again 1pm. Temperatures remained very cold with a high of 5.5 degrees in the car driving home.

Earlier in the week, Glen had a sinker of a day pleasure fishing Strip however hopes were high as there was some great weights on the Friday Lindholme teams of 3 match which included strip. Middle to high pegs being premium area to target, maggot being the bait that caught.

8 Bashers paid on in a timely manner and draw made on the pegs of roadside of strip In pairs of  2 so everyone had a partner to chat to. Peg 3 was to be my home of the day with Chef Indian on peg 2.
Tackle set up today was lines at 2+2, 2+3 off the shelf and a bomb rod , just in case it was hard.
All set up very quickly so another early start at 9:45. First fish caught were John Lanelly, Rich Cooke, John Utting who all caught small F1's.  was this going to be a good day, wait till you see the weights.

I chose to chuck the bomb rod out with corn for the first few minutes to test the aerator / bubbler area whilst priming the pole lines. Lads close by were on their poles. No indications on this line so I and I sacked the bomb off after 15 minutes. Fishing double maggot on 2+2, kinder potting in a few maggots to try coax the F1s into the feed was the approach I took.
10 minutes and the float slipped under for the first small F1 in the net, at least I wasn't to be water licked. Long gap to second bite, the float was moving ever so slightly and I raised the bait to lower and the float dipped, fish on.  The stamp of fish was very small F1s and the bites in peg 2 were very irregular with me being unable to string 2 fish together. Light feeding didn't seem to work, I upped the feed and this seemed to turn them off completely so had to start a new line or shift to a previous one. Soft pellet tried corn tried , double maggot was the only bait a bite could be had they even didn't like single or treble maggot? Bomb rod tried several times and never even had a liner. Very strange and cold day with one F1 of about 2lbs and an 8-ounce Tench making up the majority of 7lbs 6 ounce for the weigh in.

On unfancied Peg 2 Indian set off very slow on his maggot line however built up his peg catching small F1s to keep his weight ticking along. He swapped lines and even went long towards his  right but the fish came mostly on 2+ 2 in front to give a match winning 26-8 well done mate.  Small F1's a couple of larger F1a and another small Tench making a show. Double maggot best bait, Bomb rod no liners at all similar to my peg. Well done Kevin who is bang in form.

Peg 5 Rich Cooke who was most unkindly wound up on arrival at the lake with the word it was a feeder only match by both team Lanelly and Utting, not this time buddy. Rich fished a very tidy match starting short then going long before searching his peg to try chase the F1s around. Several tackle adjustments made during the match he was winning certainly until mid match and a very lean spell has cost him because as Rich fish disappeared, Kev on peg 2 has got stronger. Rich has managed to weigh in 18-9 for second in the match and section win. Well fished mate.

Peg 6 John Utting also started well but lost his fish and never quite recovered. Lost of tiny F1s to weigh in 9-15. Well done John.
Second section and fancied peg 8 gave john Lanelly a close 9-4 to his neighbour Mr Utting 9-04. Long hard day for his efforts.
Peg 9 and Paul Whitehouse has had a change off his Winter rods to his pole and again adopting a maggot approach has weighed in 12-10 for a section win.

Pegs 11 and 12 saw Jasper and Big Glen fishing side by side and to say they struggled is an understatement. We couldn't see Glen due to the fog from our end but certainly heard him paying compliments to his peg and number of bites. He went quiet around 1pm I think so must have had a bite then however the struggle continued for them both. Both lads chucked back to save the scales mans back, hope all sharp objects were hidden for their arrival home. Well done lads for sticking it out.

A long hard day for the Bashers however looking at the feeder pairs match on the complex this has also fished rock hard as well. You never know in fishing and with this in mind 4 of us are going Monday 30th for another go at Aarons half price fishing offer.

Thanks to Kev for draw assistance, Glen timekeeping and the whole team for the weigh in duties.

Next Big Bash winter league match is on 4th January, please ensure you have confirmed and paid on.

Next wrinkly knock up 18th January please be in touch by 8th Jan if interested so I can confirm a venue.
