Guys At the AGM we discussed the potential of a group of us having a weekend away in a lodge or accommodation near a reputable fishery. The suggestions were Docklow, Tunnel Barn farm and Larford.

Larfod accomodatin looks limited
Tunnel Barn farm has numerous types from Pods, caravans, lodges to 2 storey buildings
Docklow has numerous options of many types.

To those that have been to these places where did you stay please so I can enquire about dates and availability for either 3 or 4 night stays.

I guess there are other locations Hallcroft, float fish farm, Westwood lakes. If anyone who is interested knows locations with accommodation types they have used previously please drop me a message or let me know so i can check availability ad costs.
ta very much

Bottles of wine, Indian, Paul Whitehouse,

After yet another storm winds and rain match day of Saturday 27th looked reasonable weather on paper. Cold start, dry, no wind,  temperature rising to 7 degrees and a little dare I say it sunshine. The pegs handed to the club on Islands lake were 1 to 20 so some good and some, well not so good. Friday night draw night for yours truly didn't go well as I could not get on the correct link so quick phone call to Jasper and he confirmed it was Islands lake and peg 16 to be my home for the day. Although I knew it wasn't good, checking the recent results confirmed my fears with very low weights and some DNW's.

Cat ice on car windscreen, frost showing on country roads en route and first to arrive at the fishery to be greeted with early morning birdsong and a flat calm lake. Peg located and plenty room had been left as a spare pegs each side to try help with fish being caught in the section of doom.

Peg 16 has a large  island to the left and a long edge island to my right with stumps on its corner. Between the islands is open water and a lot of open water to my left hand side because peg 15 wasn't in. In summer there were large lily pads near both Islands from memory, obviously nothing showing above surface level now but no doubt loads of roots were waiting below the surface.  Plan was bomb, feeder and a pole line set up as a get out of jail line if required. Baits were bread, corn, meat and maggots.

Andy Waite on 14 to my left, Tracey Benson on 18 to my right and Big Glen in naughty boys corner peg 20. A second club was also fishing Island lake and they had only pegged 2 guys in our side of the arm to try give them as much room as possible.

Winter league fishing is what it is and not for the faint hearted. You take the rough with the smooth with regards to the weather and also  the fish the most are reluctant to feed. The fish also tend to ball up in the deeper water together and can be reluctant to feed to say the least. Today was a prime example although the weather was at least kind to us. A shout and whistle for the all in and out we go with bomb and 3 x 8mm discs of bread to pop up. Leaving each cast between 5 and 10 minutes and then back out searching for a bite. Lad across from me landed a carp after 2 minutes from near point of island so my hopes were up there may be some fish in the area. I wish. After an hour I went on feeder to try with wafters and fishery pellets but again nothing. Back on bomb rod with corn over an area I had fed near stumps on island to my right and low and behold the tip dropped back half an inch with a line bite and that in total is the only movement the tip had all match.
All baits tried and tried again. Pole line didn't result in anything either even on maggot. Lad opposite after his early carp was trying everything in his armoury and he remained biteless as well for the rest of his match.

Andy Waite on peg 14 had 3 bites all match, 2 landed carp and one fish who he could not turn or stop broke off.  The other club member opposite Andy on Island did manage about 7 fish from chucking to his right and probably did best in our area of the lake.

Big Glen in naughtly boy corner patiently sat trying everything all match and to quote him, he went in the jungle of trees in last hour and had 3 bites. 14:15, 14:30 and 14:45. Two fish landed for a section win and one lost, well done partner.

My neighbour on peg 18 Tracey Benson was neck and neck pushing me the whole match. He too tried bomb, feeder and several pole lines in search of a bite at least. His last 30 minutes was spent with 2 x pinkies on is hook and yes they came out the water intact. Well done mate for sticking the match out, it ws bloody hard today and our one consolation was it did not rain today.

The Big Bash Did Not Weigh ( DNW) club has a limited membership. I am thinking of starting a Not One Bite ( NOB) club which would eclipse the DNW club and no doubt has a further reduced membership of special people. I do cordially invite all  Big Bash members, please feel free to make your claim on the next match.

Well done to those who caught today. Nice to See Mick Roche on the bank again with us, good luck and take care mate.

Thank you to Jasper for the organisation and running the show and Glen on time keeping.

Our Aquastim Big Bash champion Steve Curtis was on the Golden Rod qualifier at Hallcroft and yes he qualified for the big money final. Well done Steve.

Next winter league match is on 10th February at Lindholme on Willows. As always please book and pay on in a timely manner to help with the admin.

This match is also open for qualification to the exclusive NOB club please be in touch if interested.
